This watercolour painting course offers a diverse and enriching experience, perfect for both beginners and experienced artists seeking to enhance their skills in capturing the beauty of natural landscapes. Over the course of six classes, you will explore a variety of scenes, from serene skies to iconic Australian flora, learning essential watercolour techniques that will allow you to bring your landscapes to life with depth, texture, and atmosphere.

Each class is designed to build your understanding of watercolour techniques, including wet-on-wet, glazing, dry brushing, and layering, while focusing on specific natural elements such as clouds, trees, wildflowers, and grassy fields. You'll be guided through the process of painting different aspects of nature—ranging from the intricate textures of gumtree bark to the soft, ethereal quality of distant landscapes with trees and bushes—while discovering how to create depth, light, and shadow in your work.

By the end of the course, you’ll have developed a stronger understanding of how to approach complex natural scenes, with the skills to capture everything from the gentle flow of grasses in the wind to the grandeur of sunlit gumtrees.

Classes include:

  1. Watercolour Painting: Skies and Fields – Focus on soft, atmospheric skies and vibrant, textured fields.
  2. Watercolour Painting: Hay Bales in a Paddock – Techniques for depicting the rustic beauty of hay bales and expansive rural landscapes.
  3. Watercolour Painting: Wild Turnip and Patterson’s Curse in a Vibrant Landscape – Learning to paint wildflowers and their surrounding landscapes with vivid colour.
  4. Watercolour Painting: Gumtrees – Focusing on Trunks and Bark – Mastering the intricate textures of gumtree bark and trunks, inspired by the classical style of Hans Heysen.
  5. Watercolour Painting: White Gum with Shadows – Focus on painting the soft texture of white gum bark and the dramatic contrast of light and shadow.
  6. Watercolour Painting: Distant Landscape with Trees and Bushes – Techniques for creating depth in expansive landscapes with a focus on trees, bushes, and atmospheric effects.

Throughout this course, you’ll learn to approach each scene with a fresh perspective, develop your technical skills, and explore the beauty of the natural world through the medium of watercolour.
