Roslyn's Watercolour Studio

How My Classes Work

I offer short, seasonal, flexible pathways with continuity over time.

My teaching follows a gentle, seasonal rhythm that allows people to begin, pause, return, and deepen over time. There is no set pace — only what feels supportive in this season.

I offer three interconnected ways of learning:

Foundations
A gentle place to begin — or begin again.
Foundations focuses on learning to see, understanding how watercolour behaves, and building confidence through guided, step-by-step practice.
It’s offered periodically as a 2-day weekend intensive or as the first month of a longer teaching block.

Subjects
Exploring themes and developing independence.
Subjects are usually 4-week courses focusing on particular themes such as landscapes, seascapes, florals, or colour. These courses build confidence, skills, and personal response, and may be revisited over time.

Mentoring
Ongoing guidance and continuity.
Mentoring is a quieter, ongoing space for artists who value conversation, reflection, and thoughtful feedback over time. It follows the natural rhythm of the year, with pauses during school holidays and quieter months.

Mentoring is available as a monthly membership, with an optional annual commitment that includes gentle continuity during off months.

Many students move between Foundations, Subjects, and Mentoring over time. There is no right timing — only what feels supportive now.

“If this feels right for you, you’re very welcome to register your interest.”

Roslyn's artistic journey spans more than two decades, expanding her expertise in media such as watercolour, pastel, oils and travel sketchbooks. From exhibiting her creations at art shows across Eastern Australia, to immersing herself in the intricate world of framing and gallery display, her knowledge with over 16+ years of hands on experience  in the local art scene is as vast as it is refined.

Roslyn Hartwig uses a step-by-step demonstration method in her classroom to guide students through the drawing process until they have completed their work. Courses often include exercises and visual 'play' to enhance learning and creativity. Her workshops promote a relaxed and fun environment that challenges you to practice the technical aspects of watercolour. Roslyn encourages students to embrace the learning curve, emphasizing that perfection is not expected when trying a new technique for the first time.
