How It Works

  • Choose & use your own references, so that every painting you create is unique to you.

  • I’ll give you an outline of ‘Steps of Method and Composition’ to consider, so you can effectively create paintings of beauty and impact.

  • This Outline will form the basis of the new plan of action we will be working with.

  • Individual Tutor ‘mini demos’ as required, so that you get the technical info/suggestions/possibilities you need to continue when at an impasse.

  • On-going constructive guidance from the Tutor during the sessions. You can ask as many questions as you want.

  • Class discussion & feedback, guided by the Tutor – the journey is more fun when shared by other creatives.

Complete your own paintings with confidence and ease. No more feeling stuck or second-guessing your next step.

Together, we’ll explore how professional artists approach composition, colour, and tonal value, using the ‘rules of design’ to transform your ideas into finished watercolours that are intentional and rewarding.

Roslyn Hartwig’s Mentoring Program supports students to work more independently, guiding them through the decision-making process behind their paintings rather than step-by-step copying. Sessions focus on developing intention, problem-solving, and personal direction through discussion, planning, and thoughtful reflection. The mentoring environment is calm, focused, and encouraging, allowing space for deeper exploration of composition, tone, colour, and style. Students are supported to refine their work with confidence, clarity, and a growing sense of artistic ownership.
