Studio Workshop: Rainbow Colours

Join this relaxed and inspiring night of watercolour exploration, where creativity and colour come together!

We’ll play with watercolour using the colours of the rainbow, while learning essential techniques.

Under the guidance of Roslyn’s expert tuition, you'll discover

  • the magic of wet-in-wet blending to create soft, flowing transitions of colour
  • brushwork & mark-making and how different strokes can bring your paintings to life
  • colour mixing combinations of bright, though natural blending

Through a mix of guided exercises and small paintings, you'll gain confidence in your artistic abilities while enjoying the meditative and expressive nature of watercolour.

All levels are welcome, and this class is a great way to unwind after the day’s pressures, be creative, and expand your watercolour skills.

Just bring your enthusiasm!

All materials are provided.

What will be taught during the evening?

  1. Introduction – Brief overview of watercolour techniques and demonstration of how colours merge on wet paper.
  2. Rainbow Sweep – playing with our 7 colours, we will colour each section of our sweep while allowing the edges to merge in a wet-in-wet method.
  3. Rainbow Swirl – a similar take on the previous exercise, but with a different shape. You will be encouraged to experiment with colour transitions.
  4. Rainbow Flower – a guided creation of a simple flower with rainbow-coloured petals, with a focus on controlling colour flow while maintaining vibrant transitions.
  5. Rainbow Carrots – using a realistic subject, we will use a selection of our seven colours to depict a group of carrots of various shapes and sizes.

Roslyn Hartwig uses a step-by-step demonstration method in her classroom to guide students through the drawing process until they have completed their work. Courses often include exercises and visual 'play' to enhance learning and creativity. Her workshops promote a relaxed and fun environment that challenges you to practice the technical aspects of watercolour. Roslyn encourages students to embrace the learning curve, emphasizing that perfection is not expected when trying a new technique for the first time.
